Maja Dahlqvist and Moa Ilar secured the SM gold – beat the advance favorite and snuffed out Ebba Andersson

There was a duel between the early favorites Piteå and Falun Borlänge in the ladies’ ski relay during the SM in Boden. In the end, it was Falun Borlänge that was the strongest, and was able to secure the club’s first SM gold.
– We were hungry for gold, we are super satisfied, says Moa Ilar in SVT.

The two teams broke away already on the first stretch, after Emma Ribom and Moa Hansson leaving the rest of the starting field behind.

On the second stretch took Ebba Andersson and Moa Ilar over, where the latter tried an attack but without getting any gap. The duo simultaneously switched to the teams’ respective finishers: Lisa Eriksson for Piteå and Maja Dahlqvist for Falun Borlänge.

Everything was decided on the last hill before the race. There, Dahlqvist showed his qualities and was able to secure the SM gold after an impressive move.

The SM gold is Falun Borlänge’s first in the women’s relay.
– It feels really good. It was the absolute best thing that could happen to us today, after all, we have never won SM gold, says Dahlqvist.

On the men’s side, Piteå won SM gold by the smallest possible margin – after Johan Häggström sprinted down Edwin Anger by a tenth of a second.
– Edvin was first in the race yesterday and took it home, so I thought I’d try his tune today. I had great skis, I just had to try to bring it home, says Häggström after the victory.

Anger, who drove in Åsarna together with Jens Burman and William Poromaamade an attempt to decide on the last lap when he put in a jerk, but failed to hold off and it was all decided on the run.

There, Häggström was able to cross the finish line first, and got to celebrate together with his teammates Viktor Brännmark and Fredrik Andersson.
– I got a pretty big gap, but it didn’t help. I’m terribly disappointed, it’s bad, says Anger.
