Maja Åskag finished last year incomparably well.
But the build-up to the European Athletics Championships has not been very good.
Now she makes the big confession about the nightmare.
During the very last competition of last year’s season, hit Maja Lightning even with the best triple jump of his career. The Swede’s 14.27 was just two centimeters from the legend Carolina Klüfts Swedish record.
Maja’s nightmare
Everything then said that Åskag would have its big international breakthrough. But the time after has been really hard for the young Swede and the winter became a nightmare.

On Christmas Day Thunder woke up and felt bad, then it only got worse. Maja suffered from glandular fever and ruined the indoor season.
“Have had a bad time”
Therefore, the build-up to the athletics EC and the summer’s big goal with the Olympics in Paris has been difficult for the 21-year-old. Now she opens up about how terrible it has been in recent months.
– I’ve had a bad time physically. I’ve been feeling shit mentally. I’ve been feeling shit, to put it bluntly. From being really excited for the season to having everything destroyed, she tells Expressen.

For several weeks she was very ill and wrestled with her inner demons every day.
– It was so hard, because I didn’t know when I would be restored – or if I would ever be completely healthy, she says in the interview.
– Now I feel more grateful that the body works as it should. I have gained some perspective on things.

Ready for the EC
Now Maja Åskag is fully recovered and ready to start the season in earnest during the European Athletics Championships, where she competes in both the triple jump and the long jump.
– I feel both strong and fast. In addition, I have started to get my timing back in the jumping, so it is very nice, she says to the evening newspaper.
But it was a sad start to the EC when the Swedish 21-year-old was forced to go out in the three-stage qualifier on Friday and thus missed the final. Now only the long jump remains for her during the championship in Rome.
