Today, wool from the Pyrenees, its properties and its French manufacture with Romain Delvit and Maison Izard. The creator of Maison Izard brings wool from the Pyrenees up to date by promoting raw materials from the south-west of France and local know-how. Sweaters, hats, scarves, socks, coats, overshirts or timeless vests, for women and men, as well as throws and cushions for the home.
All are made from wool from the Pyrenees, recycled materials and organic cotton. The Maison Izard cloakroom is timeless, ethical, responsible, committed and inspired by the world of the mountains like Romain Delvit, the creator of Maison Izard whom we met at the Made in France show.
Creation has always been part of my life, but I don’t think I really knew it. I always needed projects, new projects. With Maison Izard, I can use all my creativity via the products, via the brand.
Romain Delvit, creator of Maison Izard.
” The izard is the animal we look for when we go hiking in the Pyrenees. It’s our own chamois. The house, it was for “fashion house”, to give this qualitative, high-end side. »
Romain Delvit went to business school in marketing and sales. He worked for more than 10 years as a marketing director in large groups. He wanted more meaning in what he was doing with his days. Originally from the Pyrenees, he returned to live there and it was then that he discovered the wool of the Pyrenees. A devalued wool and in its quest for meaning, Romain Delvit launches, in 2017, Maison Izard to help breeders promote their wool. It sets up a chain of values: spinning, knitting, weaving, from the collection of wool to the making, all the stages are carried out as close as possible to the Pyrenees. The choice of material and the primary objective of Maison Izard to no longer throw away wool from the Pyrenees.
” The promotion of wool from the Pyrenees is the primary objective of Maison Isard, there is the timeless side, of course, and of responsible, local consumption, but there is this recovery of raw materials. Today, breeders burn or throw away the wool. It’s really a mess. We have this raw material that we have to use because the sheep we have to shear, otherwise they can die of suffocation. This is why I want to be the most transparent in traceability : who is the breeder, what herd to be able to help them develop this raw material. It costs them money to shear the sheep and throw away this raw material. It made no sense. They are, therefore, receptive. »
The Maison Izard range is mainly wool-based, but Romain Delvit also offers mixed compositions. It creates a yarn that is warm, soft, breathable and comfortable, by adding recycled cotton and polyamide to the wool from the Pyrenees.
” I make mixed compositions to facilitate the maintenance of the sweater and I know that it will last longer. I also use recycled wool to make the overshirt. It is a wool that has lived, so it will be less fragile in terms of maintenance and it will last longer. Wool from the Pyrenees should not be washed too much. It mainly needs airiness, which will also be the case with Merino wool. You put them outside. The wool will naturally release all the toxins it may have stored in contact with oxygen. »
