In the United States, the suspect in the mass shooting in Maine has been found dead, state officials confirm. The matter was previously reported by the media based on information they received from sources, and the county sheriff’s office announced the matter on Facebook.

State Security Authority Mike Sauschuck told a press conference local time on Friday evening that the suspect had died after shooting himself. At least Sauschuck still could not say when the suspect had shot himself.

CNN and ABC have said, based on information from their sources, that the man was found in a wooded area in Lisbon, southeast of Lewiston, near the suspect’s former workplace, from which he had been fired some time ago.

18 people died and 13 were wounded in the shootings at a bowling alley and restaurant in Lewiston on Wednesday. Among the victims were a couple in their seventies and a 14-year-old boy and his father.

The police received hundreds of tips

The suspect was searched for in large areas in Maine, and for example schools were closed. Earlier on Friday, authorities said they were following more than 530 tips and leads on the suspect’s possible whereabouts.

The suspected shooter was a reservist in the United States Armed Forces. It has been reported in the US media that the suspect was recently sent for psychiatric treatment after he said he heard voices.

The death toll is the largest mass shooting in the United States this year. The Gun Violence Archive website, which provides statistics on gun violence by there have been more than 560 mass shootings in the country this year. The site defines a mass shooting as an incident where at least four people have been wounded or killed.
