The US state of Maine will cover the funeral costs of the families who lost loved ones in the deadly mass shootings in Lewiston, Governor Janet Mills’ office announced.

The two mass shootings took place at a bowling alley and a popular bar in late October. 18 people were killed and 13 were injured. The mass shooter was found dead two days later.

The state is “working to ensure that the families of the victims do not have to bear any financial costs for the funerals of their loved ones,” said Ben Goodman, a spokesman for Maine’s governor.
