Soininen’s plunge happened on Tuesday in the fourth quarter-final match between Joensuu Maila and Kempeleen Kiri. Kiri leads the series with 3–2 wins and today, Saturday, it has a chance to advance to the semi-finals by beating Joensuu.
Baseball was chosen as a sport by accident
Jesse Soininen plays baseball in Joensuu Maila’s D-boys, and is already an experienced ball boy. According to him, the most important task of a ball boy and girl is to follow the game.
– You have to keep your eyes on the ball all the time, because otherwise you can hit the ball in your head.
Soininen says that he got into the sport by accident. There was a sports tryout day at school and Soininen would have liked either indoor basketball or soccer, but the groups were full.
– I was put into baseball. The sport absorbed quite a lot.
Currently, baseball is Soinen’s absolute number one sport, followed by tennis.
Soinen’s dream is to one day play in Superpesis. The idols are the hard takers of Hyvinkää Tahko.
