For a long time, Sweden looked to be heading for an impressive WC bronze, but after the collapse in the second half, they instead finished fourth.
Something that caused the icon Magnus Wislander to react.
– There is a little lack of brain, he tells Radiosporten.
Sweden had stormed to the handball World Cup and were undefeated for a long time, before it stopped in the semi-finals against France. It looked like blue and yellow would clinch the bronze medal, but after the collapse in the second half they were instead left without a medal.
Critique of the icon
When the final whistle sounded, Sweden had also conceded a whopping 39 goals, which is a new Swedish bottom record. It has received the handball icon and the expert Magnus Wislander to react.
– It’s a fantastic Swedish attacking game in the first half, not as good in the second half. In addition, I would claim that it is a non-existent defensive game during 60 minutes, it is not approved at all, says Wislander to Radiosporten.

Wislander also points to a detail that may have been decisive for Sweden, since the big star Jim Gottfridsson unfortunately injured himself and was forced to leave the Swedish squad.
– In situations like this, we know that it is Jim Gottfridsson who usually takes the lead. He is not on the pitch, then maybe a little brain is missing.

“Feels like..”
Magnus Wislander also believes that Sweden did not use the game in 7 against 6 enough.
– I personally would have liked to see them play 7 against 6 to send them down to the line again, it feels like Sweden did not prepare to use it at all in the tournament. Maybe there is a dimension to develop to take these steps needed to take another step up in world handball.
