Several strong earthquakes have struck the Reykjanes peninsula and the activity suggests an intrusion of magma beneath the city, Iceland’s meteorological institute said just before midnight.
“In light of this, the chief of police at Sudurnes, in cooperation with the civil protection authorities, has decided to evacuate Grindavík,” writes the weather authority.
