Mage is too greedy, learns too many spells, can’t level up to level 10

Baldur’s Gate 3 offers many ways to personalize your character, and magic is one of them. However, a player now warns against learning too many spells. Because he can no longer level because of this.

What is special about the magician?

  • The Mage is one of 12 classes in Baldur’s Gate 3 that can choose to subscribe to different schools – including things like illusion and necromancy.
  • On the tier list of the strongest classes, mages are in the A tier because of their diversity. They have the right magic for every situation.
  • Unlike all other spell classes, however, mages can also learn spells from scrolls and thus have a much larger portfolio. That was a half-elf’s undoing.
  • Here’s why you shouldn’t learn too much magic: The user Yourigath writes on Reddit that he can no longer level because his magician has already mastered too many spells. Actually, to level up to level 10, he has to choose new spells.

But he can’t do that because he has already mastered all the spells of the corresponding level. Learning spells from scrolls is expensive, but worth it because as a mage you can always re-prep your spells outside of combat. So you are prepared for every situation.

However, Baldur’s Gate 3 won’t let you continue leveling if you don’t choose a spell. This means that at a certain level you can no longer continue. This only happened to Yourigath at level 10, so just before the max level anyway.

But you can block your way faster. There is no real fix for this yet, even if the creator has found a way out of his misery.

    “Will be fixed soon”

Yourigath writes that he was able to unlearn some of his spells with the help of a mod. Normally this is not possible and it is a big detour. In the meantime he just reskilled his character and played magician.

Other players advise that it’s always best to leave a few useless level 1 spells. Simply so that there is something left over that can be skilled later – to avoid exactly this problem.

However, fans are sure that this problem will not last for too long. Since the release, developer Larian has been shooting tons of hotfixes, for example to give gnomes their underwear back or to satisfy your addiction to saves.

Too much magic isn’t the only way you can screw up the game, although it’s the only way so far that you’re actually technically no longer allowed to continue with. But if you laze too much and are too cowardly, you may miss a few things:
