Expressen reveals that Djurgården IF, one of Sweden’s top clubs, has met KuPS’s champion coach Jani Honkavaara.
According to Swedish newspaper Expressen Coached KuPS to the double championship this season Jani Honkavaara is one of the main candidates for the head coach of the Allsvenskan club Djurgården.
According to the magazine, the 48-year-old Finnish coach, who also works in Huuhkajie’s coaching team, has already met with Djurgården’s club management.
The “Finnish club” finished fourth in the recently concluded Allsvenskan after falling just one point short of the second and third places required for the Euro courts.
In the season that ended, four Finnish A national team players played in the Stockholm club; topper Miro Tenhoa midfielder Rasmus Schullerright Full-back Adam Ståhl and the pier Santeri Haarala.
Djurgårdens IF has been looking for a new head coach for next season because Kim Bergstrand and Thomas Lagerlöf was dismissed at the end of October.
In addition to Honkavaara, among other things have been mentioned among the possible candidates Jens Gustafsson, Peter Wettergren and Per-Mathias Högmo. Also Västerås SK’s From Kalle Karlsson has been discussed, and earlier on Wednesday, Aftonbladet reported that he met the club management.
The club’s sports director Boss Andersson does not want to comment on the coach’s application process at this stage.
Djurgården has hinted that its goal is to sign a new head coach possibly before Christmas and the New Year.
