Belgian warning: Don’t eat your Christmas tree
The Belgian Food Authority AFSCA has issued a warning about the dangers of eating Christmas trees.
The reason is that the city of Ghent advises on its website about “Scandinavian traditions” of eating dried pine needles.
“There is no way to ensure that it is safe to eat Christmas trees, neither for humans nor for animals,” writes AFSCA.
Many cultivated firs have been treated with pesticides and, moreover, it is difficult for the public to determine whether the trees have also been treated with fire retardants, which according to the AFSCA “can pose a danger to life”.

Serneke Sweden files for bankruptcy
The construction and property company Serneke Sverige AB has filed for bankruptcy at the Gothenburg District Court.
The company was acquired last year by the German holding company Mutares, which hoped to secure Serneke Sweden’s position as a leading player in the contracting sector in Sweden.
However, the financial situation for Serneke Sweden has deteriorated significantly during the year and the company has not succeeded in securing the short-term liquidity required to continue operations.
“The problems that emerged during our investigations after we took over control of the company have been so significant that we unfortunately see no other solution than to file for Serneke Sweden’s bankruptcy,” says Serneke’s board chairman Miikka Suominen in a press release.
