(Finance) – Italian food exports have doubled in value in just a decade, going from 34 billion in 2014 to almost 70 billion estimated for 2024, which will set an all-time record. This is stated by a Coldiretti analysis of Istat data in drawing a balance sheet of the past year in terms of foreign sales which confirmed the appeal of the Italian agri-food sector on global markets.

A real boom it is recorded on the American market where in ten years Italian food and wine has seen an increase of around 150% – notes Coldiretti – but double-digit growth also characterizes France (+90%), Germany (+71%) and Great Britain (+57%). The most exported product is wine, ahead of processed fruit and vegetables, cheeses, pasta, other cereal derivatives, fresh fruit and vegetables, cured meats and olive oil.

The success of agri-food exports it is the fruit of the work of a Made in Italy supply chain which, from field to table, involves as many as 4 million workers in 740 thousand agricultural companies and 70 thousand food industries.
An asset of the national economy that has all it takes to achieve the objective of bringing the annual value of agri-food exports to 100 billion in 2030.

To do this, however, Italy’s infrastructure delays must be bridged, which, according to the analysis of the Divulga Study Center, cost around 9 billion euros in lost exports for the national agri-food sector. At the same time, however, it is necessary to stop the phenomenon of international counterfeiting, starting from the trade agreements stipulated by the European Union, where it is urgent to apply the principle of reciprocity. According to a Coldiretti/Filiera Italia analysis, fake Made in Italy agri-food products in the world are now worth 120 billion euros.
