Madagascar: the president of the Senate says he is ready to assume the interim presidency

Madagascar the president of the Senate says he is ready

The first day of the presidential campaign this Tuesday, October 10 was marked by new twists and turns. In a letter addressed to the High Constitutional Court and which RFI was able to consult, the President of the Senate Hérimanana Razafimahefa says he is ready to exercise his functions as interim head of state. A position which falls to him during an electoral period according to the Constitution, but which he nevertheless renounced on September 8, to everyone’s surprise, citing “personal reasons”. In an interview broadcast on France 24 on Monday, the head of the upper house said he had been threatened with death by Andry Rajoelina’s advisors if he did not give up leading the country on an interim basis.
