Madagascar: street merchants excluded from downtown the capital

Madagascar street merchants excluded from downtown the capital

In Antananarivo, the Malagasy capital, hundreds of street merchants on the avenue de l’Indendance must leave their historic point of sale this Thursday. Posted on the sidewalks of Analakely, in the heart of the capital, these cafes, telephone repairers or other Gargiers reflect the place of the informal sector and the employment crisis in the country. By decision of the new mayor of the capital elected two months earlier, they are therefore asked to settle in another less central location to unlock the hypercentre of the city. Since the beginning of the week, a wind of anger has spread to merchants.
