French President Emmanuel Macron has called on Israel to avoid actions that could lead to an escalation of the war between Israel and Hamas – especially regarding Lebanon.
Macron made the message in a phone call with Benny Gantz in Israel’s war cabinet after senior Hamas leader Saleh al-Arouri was killed in an attack in a suburb of Lebanon’s capital Beirut on Tuesday night.
During the conversation, Emmanuel Macron called on Israel to “avoid all forms of escalation – especially in Lebanon”.
From the Israeli side, the country’s military says that it is prepared for “all scenarios” after al-Arouri’s death.
– The military has a very high level of preparedness in all areas, in defense and attack. We are very well prepared for all scenarios, spokesman Daniel Hagari said, without directly commenting on al-Arouri.
