French President Emmanuel Macron surprises Washington DC with a scathing attack on US trade policy ahead of a meeting with President Joe Biden.
Macron said ahead of the visit to the White House that US subsidies are “super aggressive” towards French companies, and that they threaten to “kill a lot of jobs”.
The French president’s outing was partly aimed at home, where the president and the French government are under pressure due to energy costs and inflation.
– You may be able to handle your problems, but you will increase my problems, he said with direct reference to economic support packages that the White House got through, Macron said.
