Emmanuel Macron affirms that he is making “every effort” in his search for a new Prime Minister to “achieve the best solution for the country”. The President of the Republic spoke on Thursday, August 29, about the political situation in France during a press conference in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.
“I will speak to the French people in due time and in the right context,” the head of state replied. “Believe me, I am making every effort, day and night, and I have been doing so for weeks, even if you have not necessarily seen it, to arrive at the best solution for the country,” he added, assuring that the resigning government was “facing the challenges, the crises of the moment” and refuting the idea that “affairs are not being followed up.”
He did not comment on the deadline for this highly anticipated nomination. Emmanuel Macron received representatives of several political movements at the Elysée in recent days. On Monday, August 26, he ruled out the option of nominating Lucie Castets, candidate of the New Popular Front, judging that her government would be “immediately censored by all the other groups represented in the National Assembly.”
None of the scenarios on the table to form a government are winning, more than 50 days after the dissolution of the National Assembly by President Macron, in a deeply divided country, where the resigning government continues to manage current affairs. Since the legislative elections, the presidential camp has been arguing for a German-style coalition government ranging from the right to the social democrats, with a potential of 301 deputies. But on the right as on the left, no one wants to be associated too closely with a Macronie defeated three times at the ballot box.
