Macron promises a “National Council for Refoundation” and pension reform in 2023

Macron promises a National Council for Refoundation and pension reform

What will the new method promised by Emmanuel Macron look like? A month and a half after his re-election, the French president details the main lines of his second term, in an interview with the regional daily press. The Head of State announces the creation of a “National Council for Refoundation”, in the event of victory in the legislative elections of 12 and 19 June.

With, in political service, Anthony Latier

Emmanuel Macron assumes the reference to the National Council of Resistance, set up after the Second World War. The moment we are living in imposes, according to him, a profound change of model.

So, who will take part in this National Council for Refoundation? The vital forces of the nation and of the citizens drawn by lot… Their role is still vague, but they will have to look together for solutions on the reforms to come, on school or health. Consultations will be launched this fall.

I carried five objectives during the campaign: independence (industrial, military, food, etc.), full employment, carbon neutrality, public services for equal opportunities and democratic rebirth with institutional reform. To achieve them, I want to bring together a National Council for Refoundation, with the political, economic, social, associative forces, elected representatives of the territories and citizens drawn by lot. This advice, which I will launch myself, will be triggered immediately after the legislative elections.

At the same time, a cross-party commission will be set up to change the institutions. As for the pension reform, it should come into force in a year.

As for the work on the pension reform, which is essential to the financing of our transformations, it will begin after this Council [national de la refondation] and the reform will come into force in the summer of 2023.

But to implement this roadmap, Emmanuel Macron must win the legislative elections. And the president, in withdrawal so far, hardens the tone by targeting his two adversaries Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Marine Le Pen, whose projects are synonymous, according to him, ” disorder and submission “.

In the event of a victory for the left, Emmanuel Macron suggests that he would not appoint Jean-Luc Mélenchon Prime Minister. In the Constitution, he says, no party can impose a name on the president “.
