Part of the Senegalese opposition published an open letter on Friday evening addressed to French head of state Emmanuel Macron. In this document, members of Fite (Front for inclusiveness and transparency of elections), protest against the appointment of Senegalese President Macky Sall to the post of special envoy and president of the Paris Pact monitoring committee for planet and people (4Ps). This nomination is seen by the Front for inclusiveness and transparency of elections, as a humiliation towards the Senegalese people. According to the 36 signatories of this letter, the French president should not rush to offer this position to President Macky Sall, who has not yet completed his mandate, even if he has decided not to seek a new one.

Members of the opposition also remind the French president of the numerous victims of the demonstrations of March 2021 and June 2023. According to them, at least 100 people were killed by bullets during these popular demonstrations. More than a thousand people are still detained in the country’s prisons.
The Front for inclusiveness and transparency of elections also reminded Emmanuel Macron that it was under the Macky Sall regime that an administration refused to hand over sponsorship forms to the representative of an opposition candidate despite a court decision.
