For several days now, several forest fires have been raging near the Inca ruins in Machu Picchu, Peru, one of the world’s seven new wonders.
– We have fought the fires for two days but have unfortunately not managed to take control of it, says a firefighter.
Another disaster
And an accident rarely comes alone, it is said – even a landslide near Chavin de Huantar 450 km north of Lima has occurred.
At least 150 homes are said to have been buried in the huge masses of earth and although no deaths have been confirmed so far, people in the area fear that it is only a matter of time.
