Mac: what is it?

The term “Mac” refers to the series ofcomputers Macintoshes manufactured by Apple since 1984. With its very first model, Apple did much to start the trend of making computers easy to use and to promote the idea that everyone can find a use for a computer. The mac are especially popular with creatives and developers. The main rivals of Macs are PCs running the operating system Microsoft Windows.

The Mac Family

Apple Macs come in several models. The most famous today is the all-in-one iMac, in which the computer is integrated into a screen. There are also the more expensive (and more powerful) Mac Pros, which are PC-like in that they consist of only the main body and are modular. There’s also the tiny, screenless Mac Mini, and finally there’s the MacBook laptop, of which there are two varieties on sale today: MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. All Macs come with the operating system macOS from Apple, but on models manufactured between 2006 and early 2020, it is possible to partition the hard disk and install Windows thanks to boot camp.

Macs are capable of all the same general functions as PCs, such as word processing, playing music and videos, gaming, accessing Internet, etc Most functions, however, require different programs than a PC. Macs have a number of advantages over PCs. They are renowned for their aesthetics and the excellent quality of their materials. The macOS operating system is also widely considered to be much more user-friendly than its Windows counterpart, and it’s certainly safer against viruses.

Macs, a creation of Apple

Unlike PCs, which have many manufacturers, Macs are made only by Apple. Therefore, they have far fewer hardware incompatibilities than their counterparts.

Previously, Macs were much less compatible with PCs than they are today. Sending Mac documents as email attachments to PCs used to cause a lot of problems. However, these days it is extremely rare that there are any difficulties in accessing Mac documents on PCs and vice versa. However, Macs are generally more expensive than PCs and have much less software, especially games, and they are also much less modular.
