In tonight’s Agenda, Mats Green debated the issue with Fredrik Olovsson, energy policy spokesperson for the Social Democrats. He wants the municipal veto removed.
– We put a bill on the Riksdag’s table a year ago, but it was voted down. We raised the same proposal again in the spring. Because we think it is so important to make the processes more efficient, but that was also voted down. Therefore, we have a worse process in Sweden than in Finland, says Fredrik Olovsson.

Mats Green does not agree that the municipal veto, which means that municipalities can say no to planned wind power plants well into the process, risks slowing down the expansion.
– No the opposite. It is a dead end that you have to force through a wind power expansion on a state road.
He thinks that all actors, not least the industry, need to work to ensure that the wind turbines are not stopped at the local level.
– You need to see how you can get people to embrace wind power, he says.
