Before the EU elections, the Social Democrats single out SD as their main rival, writes DN. In the last elections, S has seen both M and SD as main opponents, but this time, the Moderates are not included.
– We would have liked to have chosen the Moderates as the main opponent, but they are simply irrelevant. It is far too small a party, says S party secretary Tobias Baudin to the newspaper.
It is the party board that made the decision in its election strategy. It affects, among other things, which issues S will push for and which debates the party will take, says party leader Magdalena Andersson.
She emphasizes that there is a war going on in Europe and that Sweden is still outside NATO.
– The EU is what we have to hold in our hands in this situation. Then SD wants to evaluate and start discussing Swedish EU membership. It is not putting the safety of the Swedish people first, says Andersson.
