French capital of gastronomy, Lyon is also known to have been the capital of Gaul, i.e. “the first capital of France“. After Caesar’s conquest of Gaul, the future Lyon welcomed a Roman colony in 43 BC which will quickly develop to the point of becoming the most important city in Gaul. Lugdunum then became a powerful city and established itself as the capital of Roman Gaul.
