    The artist Luv Resval died on the night of Thursday to Friday “following a serious asthma attack”. How to prevent the risk of death linked to asthma? Are they frequent? The point with Doctissimo.

    Asthma is a relatively rare cause of death…. And yet, the disease did not spare rapper Luv Resval, who died of a “serious asthma attack, a pathology he suffered from since birthe,” her family revealed in an Instagram statement.

    The rapper died just before the release of his album

    The artist, who had announced on his social networks the release of his new album (Mustafar), was expected on stage this weekend to close the Nouvelles Voix festival, in Villefranche-sur-Saône.

    His bereaved family paid him a final tribute on Instagram.

    We have the immense sadness to inform you of the death of Luv Resval, our son, brother and friend, which occurred during the night, following a serious attack of asthma, a pathology from which he suffered since birth. He was both an exceptional young man and an immense artist: generous, talented, creative; with a unique vision of the world around him. We ask that you respect the loss of our family and loved ones. Rest in peace.”

    1000 asthma-related deaths per year

    Asthma is a common disease, which results in difficulty breathing, shortness of breath and a feeling of tightness in the chest. Each year, more than 1,000 French people die from this chronic pathology, which is too often trivialised. Faced with a high concentration of allergenic factors, a complete obstruction of the bronchi can indeed occur. This is what happened to Luv Resval, on the night of Thursday to Friday.

    Despite dramatic advances, patient compliance can still be a problem. Thus, the number of hospitalizations and deaths today can be explained by poor treatment. Indeed, these are long-term treatments, which must often be taken daily, and the follow-up of which may seem restrictive. The WHO thus confirms that in the case of asthma, “poor adherence to treatment can lead to death“.

    Note: one of the main reservations about these figures relates to the asthmatic origin of death. If it is not in doubt in children or adults, it is more difficult to distinguish from other respiratory diseases (in particular from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD) 5 in older people.

    If asthma cannot be cured, appropriate management can help control the disease and maintain a good quality of life for patients. It goes through:

    • A emergency treatment administered to relieve symptoms;
    • A background treatment (such as inhaled corticosteroids) which makes it possible to control the evolution of asthma, reduce exacerbations and mortality.

    Compliance with this background treatment is essential. Know that even if you are well and the asthma is under control, you should not stop the treatment.

    Medicines are not the only way to fight asthma and these complications. The WHO specifies that it is also important “to avoid anything that can trigger seizures.i.e. stimuli causing irritation or inflammation of the respiratory tract“. With the help of the doctor, each asthmatic must learn to avoid what triggers his attacks.
