Origin: since when does World Lupus Day exist?
This day was proclaimed in England by an international committee representing 13 countries which have thus launched an appeal to all governments, with the aim of obtaining funds for research and finding a treatment adapted to the disease. Since 2004the year World Lupus Day was established, lupus organizations around the world carry out activities on May 10 to raise awareness and educate the public about the symptoms of lupus and its health effects. The aim is to make it one of the international health priorities and to ensure that people with lupus around the world are diagnosed and treated effectively, says the World Lupus Federation on its website.

Why Wear Purple for Lupus?
the purple is the symbolic color of lupus. Autoimmune diseases are often symbolized by a purple ribbon. So, in support of this disease, each of us is invited to wear purple clothes, accessories or ribbon (available in the offices of the partner associations, see the list below) on May 10, take a photo and share the pictures on your social networks (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat…) with hashtags #WorldLupusDay Where #MakeLupusVisible.
What events are organised?
Throughout the month of May, several cities are mobilizing to highlight this autoimmune disease. For example :
- Monday, May 16, 2022 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the University Hospital of Lille : conferences (therapeutic news on lupus, what can I do about my lupus?…) led by the team of the Internal Medicine and Clinical Immunology Department of the Lille University Hospital, Huriez Hospital.
- Saturday May 28, 2022 from 2 p.m. to Cahuzac-sur-Vere (Tarn): trail run + 5 km or 10 km hike organized by Lupus France
- Several monuments or buildings are illuminated in purple on World Lupus Day.
