Luka Modrics national team career continues Sports in a

Luka Modric was named in Croatia’s squad for September’s Nations League matches.

Croatia’s star player was adored by many football fans Luka Modric to end his national team career at the European Championships that ended last month, but the midfielder, who will turn 39 next month, seems to have decided otherwise. Croatian national team head coach Zlatko Dalic named Modric for the Nations League matches against Portugal and Poland at the beginning of September.

Unlike Modric, Croatian veterans Domagoj Vida and Marcelo Brozovic ended their national team career at the end of the EC tournament.

– Although we are without two of our veterans, Vida and Brozovic, we are happy that our captain is still with us. Luka is a great reinforcement both on and off the field, Dalic said.

Modric, who played 178 matches in the national team shirt, became the oldest goalscorer in the history of the European Championship in the summer when he scored in the opening group match against Italy.

Last month, Modric also signed a one-year contract extension with his club team Real Madrid.
