Dallas guard Luka Doncic scored 73 points and set a club record. The NBA round also saw another big score, when Devin Booker scored 62 points.
Slovenian guarantor Luka Doncic scored 73 points in the NBA against Atlanta. Only three players in league history have scored more points in a single game.
Doncic’s scoring streak is Dallas’ club record in one game. Dallas, represented by the back man, beat the home team Atlanta 148–143 in a historic evening with its superstar.
– He is the game plan, the head coach of Dallas Jason Kidd mother cheered on her superstar after the match.
The 24-year-old Doncic threw no less than 33 shots against Atlanta. He hit these at an almost unimaginable rate of more than 75 percent, with 25 shots sinking into the basket. He hit eight of his 13 three-point attempts and 15 of his 16 free throws.
– I just attacked, whatever the defense did. In the second half, they doubled me all the time, so I tried to create something and read the game, Doncic analyzed in the court interview after the match.
Only sport legends have previously reached at least 73 points in one match Wilt Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant and David Thompson. What makes Doncic’s match particularly exceptional is the efficiency of the Slovenian star. His so-called true shooting percentage was 91.2, which is a wild reading for Doncic’s shooting rate.
True shooting percentage takes two-point shots, three-point shots and free throws into account when measuring shooting efficiency, and is thus a more comprehensive measure than just shooting percentage in game situations.
Earlier in the week, Doncic, who has been in a great mood this season, was selected for the NBA All-Star Game in the opening five of the West. The guard has scored 34.6 points per game, collected 8.6 rebounds and given 9.2 assists.
Booker excelled in Indiana
In addition to Doncic’s spectacular performance, the NBA tour saw another one-man fireworks display. Phoenix’s back man Devin Booker scored 62 points against Indiana. Home team Indiana won the match 133–131 despite Booker’s spark.
Booker hit 22 of his 37 field goal attempts and 12 of his 13 free throws. Phoenix led the match from the opening quarter and the lead was at best 17 points. However, Indiana pulled through in the final quarter and spoiled Booker’s point celebration.
Only Doncic, Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo have outscored Booker in one game this season.
– Those are throws that I have taken all season. We have things to work out, especially in defense, Booker said after the match.
Booker and Phoenix’s other superstar Kevin Durant carry a huge burden on their team, as Booker logged more than 38 and Durant more than 39 minutes of playing time in the match.
Durant has played an average of more than 37 minutes and Booker more than 36 minutes this season. Durant’s balance is the second highest in the entire league. Booker is number eight on the same list. Like Doncic, Durant made it to the opening five of the All-Star Game.
