Friday’s World Cup qualifying match will be Uruguay’s all-time best scorer Luis Suarez, 37, the last match for the national team.
Uruguayan soccer star Luis Suarez announced that he would leave the national team games behind. Suarez, who currently plays for Inter Miami in the MLS league, said Friday’s World Cup qualifying match against Paraguay will be his last match for the Uruguayan national team.
At the press conference, 37-year-old Suarez emphasized that the decision was not easy. However, he promised to give his all until the last match of his national team career.
The former Liverpool and Barcelona star leaves the national team as Uruguay’s all-time top scorer. Suarez has managed to score a total of 69 goals in his 142 national team matches.
Suarez made his national team debut in 2007. He helped Uruguay win the 2011 Copa America, where he was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
– It was the best moment of my career. I wouldn’t trade it for anything, he said about the Copa America victory at Monday’s press conference.
In the end, Suarez represented Uruguay in nine major tournaments.
