Luggage straps broke at Heathrow – causing bag chaos

Luggage straps broke at Heathrow causing bag chaos

It is not only at Arlanda that things are going awry.

At Heathrow in London, a terminal was transformed into a sea of suitcases after a luggage belt crashed.

– I have never seen anything like it, says Deborah Haynes from Sky News.

On the night before Friday, a baggage claim at the giant Heathrow airport stopped working. It turned out to be a real push for check-in. A sea of suitcases gathered on the floor in terminal 2.

A number of travelers were forced to travel without their luggage.

Two journalists from Sky News happened to be at the terminal on Friday.

– When I came out, I saw this crazy amount of suitcases that filled the floor like a huge carpet of luggage. I have never seen anything like it, says editor Deborah Haynes.

“Will climb Kilimanjaro tomorrow”

Editor Dominic Waghorn says that passengers were told that they would not receive their luggage until two days later.

– I overheard how a passenger said “but I will climb Kilimanjaro tomorrow and need all my stuff”, Waghorn says to Sky.

Testimonials from the terminal tell how employees struggled to sort the bags into different piles. Countless passengers aired their dissatisfaction with several hours of waiting on social media.

Later on Friday, the airport announced that the error had been rectified.

– We work hard with the airlines to reunite the bags with their owners as quickly as possible. We regret that there have been disruptions for passengers, says a spokesperson for Heathrow BBC.
