The pilots of the German airline Lufthansa will start a strike on Wednesday, which will last until Friday, according to the union representing the pilots.

Both passenger and cargo plane pilots are affected by the strike. More than 5,000 pilots may go on strike this week.

Passenger plane pilots are on strike on Wednesday and Thursday, and cargo plane pilots are on strike from Wednesday to Friday.

Vereinigung Cockpit, which represents the pilots, said that the purpose of the strike is to speed up salary negotiations. The trade union demands a 5.5 percent increase in wages.

The strike affects Lufthansa flights departing from German airports. Lufthansa’s subsidiaries, such as Swiss, Austrian, Brussels and Eurowings, are not covered by the strike.

Lufthansa pilots also went on strike last week. More than 800 flights were canceled due to the strike, which affected the travel of about 130,000 passengers.
