Ludvig Åberg’s completely unexpected tribute – to the most daring question about Zlatan and Björn Borg: “I probably wouldn’t…”

Ludvig Åberg has quickly become one of Sweden’s, and golf’s, biggest stars.
Can he even reach icons like Björn Borg and Zlatan Ibrahimovic?
When the Swede himself was asked the question, he responded with an unexpected tribute.

Ludvig Åberg’s career cannot be described in any other way than cometary. The Swedish 24-year-old turned professional in the summer of 2023, and after that everything went very quickly for the child prodigy from Eslöv.

Huge success

Åberg made his debut in the Ryder Cup during the same autumn, and thus he wrote a really powerful piece of golf history. No one else, in the long history of golf, had been selected for the prestigious tournament without previously playing in a major, i.e. one of golf’s four biggest competitions. Despite that, Åberg managed to do great things, when his Europe won against the USA in Rome.

Well in April, the debut came in a major context, and then Åberg once again exceeded everyone’s expectations. The Swede was the only one who even came close to threatening the supreme world number one Scottie Scheffler, and the Swede achieved Sweden’s best ever result in the Masters, when he finished alone second in the competition. The hysteria surrounding Åberg, who has become many favorite players over the past year, is enormous.

The tribute – to Abba

And it has been ever since he broke through. After the breakthrough, the media has wanted to know just about everything about him, and in the subsequent competitions he has been the one who has perhaps received the most television time of all. And in connection with the Ryder Cup last fall, he got a question that really took him to bed. A reporter if he is prepared to be as famous as other Swedish icons, such as Abba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Björn Borg.

Ludvig Åberg looked noticeably surprised, but when he did answer, he did it with a mighty mad tribute – to Abba.

– I wouldn’t mention myself in the same sense as Abba, he said first, before continuing:

– All I try to do is play golf and hit as few shots as I can in every competition I play.

No Abba, then – but Åberg himself has no problem being compared to some of our greatest ever. And right now it certainly doesn’t feel impossible!
