Ludvig Åberg doesn’t hold back when he praises Henrik Stenson to the skies – now says exactly what all Swedes are thinking

Henrik Stenson is Sweden’s only major winner on the men’s side.
Ludvig Åberg disagrees about how much it meant to him, and Swedish golf.
– It should be a red day in Sweden, says the star.

Ludvig Åberg is one of golf’s absolute hottest players. It was only last summer that the Swedish sensation chose to turn professional, and since then everything has gone at rocket speed for him, and he is at the top in pretty much every single competition.

Makes his first The Open

In his major debut at Augusta National, he finished second, and he was in contention for the title at the US Open earlier this summer. Now it’s time for his final major debut, when the prestigious The Open is decided at classic Troon. And it is a special track for all Swedes.

It was there that Henrik Stenson broke the Swedish major curse when, in historic fashion, he became the first Swedish major winner on the men’s side in 2016, after one of the all-time duels with Phil Mickelson. Stenson now plays on the LIV tour and his weak world ranking means that you rarely see him at major tournaments, but with the win at Troon, he gets to play The Open.

The tribute to Stenson

Ahead of the year’s last major, and many people’s favorite competition, Ludvig Åberg pays a huge tribute to the Swedish icon, and he does not deny how much Stenson’s win meant to him and Swedish golf.

– I can almost remember all of Henrik Stenson’s strokes when he shot his 63 here at Troon in 2016, says Åberg before the competition.

Ludvig Åberg believes that Stenson’s victory should be celebrated more at home in Sweden.

– We were a group of friends who sat and watched – it almost feels like I’ve been here before. July 17, the day when Henrik won, should be a red day at home in Sweden, he says.
