Final stretch in the race for Matignon? This Friday, August 23, the political “consultations” begin at the Elysée. And as announced earlier this week, it is the four parties of the New Popular Front that open the ball of this salvo of interviews. La France insoumise (LFI), the Socialist Party (PS), the Greens (EELV) and the Communist Party (PC) are received this morning at 58 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. They are accompanied by Lucie Castets, their candidate for Matignon. A proposal to which Emmanuel Macron had seemed to oppose a flat refusal on July 23.
The day will continue with the arrival of the majority and the Republican Right. For the latter, which remains a supporting force with its 47 seats in the National Assembly, the line is clear: “We do not wish to participate in a coalition”, recently recalled the deputy Fabien Di Filippo. The National Rally will be received at the Elysée on Monday, August 26. On France Info This Thursday, Philippe Ballard, deputy of Oise and spokesperson for the RN, described the meeting as a “publicity stunt” and said he did not expect “much”

The NFP delegation at the Elysée
Lucie Castets and the leaders of the New Popular Front (NFP) arrived at the Elysée Palace around 10:30 a.m. to talk with Emmanuel Macron. “We came to propose a solution for stability,” said the candidate for the post of Prime Minister.
“We have come to remind the president of the importance of respecting the result of the elections and of getting the country out of the paralysis in which it is plunged,” she declared, surrounded by the party and parliamentary group leaders of the NFP, “ready” according to her to “seek compromises in the absence of an absolute majority” in the Assembly.
Tondelier: “There is no plan B for Lucie Castets”
The leader of the Ecologists Marine Tondelier judged that “Emmanuel Macron is acting like a refractory Gaul” by practicing “inaction” and “obstruction”. But for the left, “there is no plan B for Lucie Castets”, she stressed on France Inter, judging that the head of state will have to appoint her because “he has no choice”.
LFI will urge Macron to appoint Lucie Castets
Questioned by our colleagues from LCI This Friday morning, Mathilde Panot responded that she would ask Emmanuel Macron “to rediscover a taste for democracy and to appoint Lucie Castets to Matignon”.
And the leader of the rebellious deputies added: “It is a scandal to have a President of the Republic who does not respect the decision of the ballot box or universal suffrage.”
The interview could be “very quick”, according to Fabien Roussel
This morning, Fabien Roussel was on TF1. After having assured that he wanted to “find compromises without compromise”, the national secretary of the PCF, who lost his constituency in the legislative elections last June, suggested that the interview might not last very long: “If he meets us to give us a flat refusal, there is no reason to stay.”
And the former deputy from the North hammered home: “Who today is the political bloc that has the most deputies? The “presidential majority”, they only have 166 and we have almost 200! Admit that his policy has been punished!”
Macron: his fantasy of life without a Prime Minister
More certain than ever that time and the absence of a tenant at Matignon are on his side, the President of the Republic is again and again putting off the moment of appointing a Prime Minister. Even if it means losing everything. Analysis by our journalist Laureline Dupont.
