Lowered the rival – after the fine tribute

Tribute tifo, lap of honor and finish.
Everything was about Per Åslund when Färjestad beat Frölunda in Karlstad.
– It’s magical, he says in TV4’s broadcast.

Per Åslund – who was back on Thursday after a month and a half absence following a concussion – played his 801st game in the SHL.

He scored number 800 in the comeback when Färjestad met HV71 in Jönköping, so he had to be properly celebrated when the team was back on home ice against Frölunda on Saturday night instead.

And what a celebration it was.

Scored goal number 194

Before relegation, he was allowed to go out on the ice in solitary majesty to a powerful tifo from the home supporters completely dedicated to him.

And when the puck was released, he got on the scoresheet straight away when he headed in 1-0 after a shot from Magnus Nygren.

A goal that meant he overtook Jörgen Jönsson as Färjestad’s second-most goalscorer of all time (194).

“A lot of thought there”

In the break interview on TV4, he was noticeably moved by all the tributes:

– There were a lot of thoughts going through his head there, he said and continued:

– I am incredibly proud to have been able to do it with the family in the stands. And lots of people and cheers… it’s absolutely magical.

Endured and won

Färjestad scored two unanswered goals within 21 seconds in the second and when Marian Studenic made it 4–1 at the start of the third, Färjestad cruised to a clear victory against the rival from Gothenburg.

Frölunda got up and got two takedowns, but didn’t get any closer than that.

Färjestad won the match 4–3.
