President Emmanuel Macron’s right-liberal election alliance Ensemble looks set to win the most seats in the first round of the French parliamentary elections. But it is uncertain whether Macron will succeed in securing a majority in parliament, polls show. When the polls closed on Sunday night, three polls showed that Macron’s alliance will eventually get between 260 and 310 seats, reports AFP. Macron needs to secure 289 seats to have a majority behind his policies. Turnout looks set to be slightly lower than in 2017. Three hours before the polls closed, at 5 pm, 39.4 percent of voters had gone to the polls, compared to 40.8 in the first round of parliamentary elections in 2017, French media report.
