Low electricity prices – so you can get paid for using electricity today

During Sunday, electricity prices were incredibly low. On the Nordic electricity exchange Nordpool, the average electricity price was minus ten öre in electricity areas three and four, writes P4 Halland.

This is extremely unusual and means that you can get paid for using electricity.

Johan Sigvardsson is an electricity market analyst at Bixia, and in an interview with P4 he explains why it can be this way.

– In Sweden or the Nordic region as a whole, the wind is quite strong. But the fact that it happens that way in the afternoon is a bit of a new phenomenon, you could say.

You can take advantage of the low prices

In Europe, solar power and wind power have been expanded, which means that when solar power is intense as it is in the afternoon, when the sun is at its strongest, there is overproduction, Sigvardsson tells P4.

– Especially on weekends when the displacement is at its lowest, then it can create strongly negative prices. Anyone with an hourly contract can really benefit from this development that we have seen.
