Dragon Age: The Veilguard continues a story that fans have been waiting for for 9 years. But one figure causes confusion: an elf who actually acts as an antagonist. But somehow it’s super popular in the community. A fan wants to know why and gets deep insight into the character and his role in The Veilguard.
Spoiler warning: This is about the events of Dragon Age: Inquisition and some content from The Veilguard. We try to keep the spoilers as light as possible, but we can’t leave out some details.
Who is the villain?
By the way, the elf’s nickname is “Dread Wolf”, the original title of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
This is why Solas is so popular: On Reddit whether he missed something or why everyone is suddenly celebrating Solas like that. In his memory, the elf is “smug, arrogant, a narcissist and racist” and all of that is probably true.
The user even hopes that in The Veilguard we will have the opportunity to kill Solas. The creator receives a detailed answer to his question in a comment. The user Pax-facts84 says:
Some love him, some hate him. This is because the way you react to him is how he reacts to you. In a way, it reflects what you expect from it. If you think he’s an asshole, we’ll be colder and more distant. […] He thinks that he has destroyed the world, killed so many, and must undo that mistake at all costs, because he woke up in such a fundamentally different place that feels lifeless. […]
There is something immensely human about him. I often become friends with him. It’s fun to see him experimenting, pushing to learn more. You are different, you are similar to him and you shouldn’t be.
Solas is still “an asshole,” explains the user. He sees a world in which his people have degenerated into something that once condemned them, a shadow of themselves. The elf is arrogant, too proud and wrong – and is therefore also cruel. But the user can understand that: “It’s so human.”
Solas and the actual opponents can be seen in the gameplay:
Solas is one of the most important characters in Dragon Age, but not the boss in Veilguard
It was only through Solas that the events that lead to The Veilguard were even initiated. We won’t go into too much detail about exactly what they are, but his pursuit of correcting a mistake has set a number of things in motion.
However, the real antagonists of the game are exactly the ones Solas is actually fighting against: the elven gods. These can already be seen in the detailed gameplay of The Veilguard:
Elgar’nan is the “Allfather” of the elves, who, according to legend, is responsible for the sun rising and setting. Ghilan’nain is the elven goddess of guidance and navigation and known as the mother of all Halla.
We can’t yet say exactly what will happen next with Solas and the gods. The Veilgaurd will be released on October 31st and from then on you can explore for yourself how the story of Dragon Age continues.
Our Head of Editorial at Webedia, Rae Grimm, has already been able to see at least a little bit of the new Dragon Age and even play it herself. Rae is a huge fan of the series and is absolutely thrilled with the latest installment: After 7 hours of play, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is everything I’ve ever loved about BioWare
