A person who bought a lottery ticket at a gas station in the city of Altadena, California, was able to laugh all the way to the bank on Tuesday. The person – as the only winner – collected 2 billion dollars, corresponding to around 22 billion kroner, in the American lottery.
So it was only one of the millions of tickets sold that matched all six numbers in the California Lottery’s Powerball.
“California Lottery Makes FIRST Billionaire EVER!” the organization wrote on Twitter.
The draw was originally scheduled for Monday, but was postponed because more time was needed to complete certain security procedures due to the large volume of tickets.
The winner will be able to withdraw either a lump sum of about $1.4 billion or the full amount in several payments over three decades. Most winners choose the lump sum.
Until Tuesday’s big win, no one had won since August, which saw the winnings grow to the incredible sum of $2 billion.
