In Lost Ark, many newcomers have been complaining for a long time that it’s just too difficult to start the MMORPG’s tricky raids. A veteran has now decided to change that and has only helped newcomers for a week.
What did the player do? The YouTuber Freshy has been showing a lot of content about Lost Ark on his channel for months. He creates guides for his classes, shows how he quickly earns gold and how the MMORPG feels after more than 3,000 hours of play in one year.
He talks about having his entire roster ready for the next content patch. That means he has at least 6 characters at item level 1,560 or higher. So you can definitely speak of a real Lost Ark veteran.
In his latest video he deals with gatekeeping in Lost Ark and wants to help new and helpless players through raids. He shows how for a week he sacrificed many of his weekly quests to help new and not-so-experienced players.
What is happening in the video? In the video itself, he shows how he specifically searches for groups for a wide variety of content, in which newcomers and returnees are looking for help. He joins their groups and supports them where they need help.
He goes on to explain that he has also actively tried to set up study groups. However, since that was very time-consuming, he simply pulled people through the content and only explained if it was necessary or if there were questions.

Gatekeeping in Lost Ark is getting progressively worse
Why is what he made so good? In Lost Ark, there is a limit to how many raids you can go into with your character per week. That is, he sacrificed parts of his own progress to help newcomers along. Because he has completed raids with them that he actually no longer needs himself.
However, heroic deeds like his are becoming more and more necessary, because playing in raids is becoming increasingly difficult in Lost Ark, and not only for newcomers and returnees.
Why are the requirements increasing? To run some of the easier raids, you only need an item level of 1,445 or 1,460, depending on the raid. But in order to actually run along, that is often no longer enough.
Many players have to play through 3 raids a week with 6 characters and of course want to do this as efficiently and quickly as possible. That’s why you often only find groups that are looking for people with a gear score of 1,500 or higher. For a raid that can actually be done much earlier.
Even in the current high-end content, this is becoming more and more of a problem. For example, the newest boss Brelshaza is divided into 6 gates. Most groups that only want to run Gates 1 to 4 are now only looking for players who have already completed Gate 6 10 times. The whole thing is also known as “gatekeeping” and is getting worse and worse.
In the Lost Ark reddit, the game is often accused of not having experienced worse gatekeeping in any MMORPG than here. Exactly on the other hand, the YouTuber Freshy wants to send a clear signal with his video. And that goes down really well on reddit.

How are the fans reacting? The YouTuber himself also shared the video on Lost Ark’s reddit. He gets a lot of attention from people there. Within just 16 hours, the post received a total of 259 upvotes and 84 comments (as of 5:20 p.m., February 27, 2023). The reactions to the post are mostly positive.
Some people, while acknowledging Freshy’s effort, say it would take many more such people to solve the fundamental problem of gatekeeping in Lost Ark. However, most players simply thank the veteran for helping out when help is needed.
