Loss at home – fourth place for Sweden in handball

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

In the end, it was a fourth place for the Swedish national handball team. That after a real thrilling match against Spain in the Tele2-Arena in Stockholm. The final numbers were 36-39 after Sweden had the lead at the break with 22-18.

It was the fourth time in the last three championships that Sweden and Spain were pitted against each other.

In the Olympic quarter-finals in Tokyo 2021, the Spaniards won, as well as in the EC group game in Bratislava last year. But Sweden got revenge against Spain in the EC final in Budapest, and in the evening’s bronze match there was thus another Swedish victory.

World champions were Denmark, who won 34-29 against France. They have played 28 consecutive World Cup matches without losing and become the first country to win three consecutive World Cup gold medals.
