This decision responds to the wishes of the inhabitants of Lopik. During the municipal elections in March, they mainly voted for the ChristenUnie-SGP and Hart voor Lopik, two parties that were strongly against a merger. After the elections, they entered into negotiations together to reach an agreement, but that collapsed in mid-May. There was “a lack of a basis for a stable future”, according to party chairman of the ChristenUnie-SGP, Bert de Leede. Hart voor Lopik was left very disappointed.
