Looters prevent rescue efforts in Turkey

In the middle of the rescue work that is going on after the earthquake, there are also reports of looting in several cities in Turkey. The cold, the lack of food and water mean that necessities but also other things are stolen from shops and the atmosphere is described as tense.

According to Turkish state media, 48 people have been arrested for looting. Two German rescue teams have suspended their efforts due to fights that broke out in the street between different groups. Austrian teams also paused aid work yesterday until security could be guaranteed with the help of the Turkish military.
