Loot shooter mixes Destiny and Warframe and already has over 70,000 players in the beta

The loot shooter The First Descendant is currently inviting you to an open beta in which over 70,000 players are already taking part.

What kind of game is this? The First Descendant is an upcoming loot shooter from the Korean developer studio Nexon, which will be released as a F2P title on Steam, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The shooter already showed 17 minutes of gameplay over the weekend.

The First Descendant relies on Unreal Engine 5 and a third-person perspective. On top of that, the shooter takes place in a sci-fi setting in which players have to fight alien invaders. There are various classes available to them that have special abilities.

In addition to shooter gameplay and evil aliens, The First Descendant also offers 4-player co-op including crossplay on all platforms, raids and various boss fights. Loot and materials are rewarded for completing a mission.

Beta is already running, access can be requested

When is the beta? The First Descendant crossplay open beta started on September 19, 2023 and will run until September 25, Nexon announced at gamescom ONL 2023.

How can you participate in the beta? If you want to participate in the beta, you can register on the game’s official website (via tfd.nexon.com). There you then select your platform and enter your email address.

As a PC player, you also have the opportunity to request beta access on The First Descendant’s Steam page (via Steam).

How is the beta received? The beta of The First Descendant already had over 70,000 players on Steam only on the first day (via Steamcharts) – it is not known how many players will join on the consoles.

The first beta players are particularly reminded of Destiny and Warframe – that was already apparent from the shooter’s first trailers. In terms of play, the similarity to Warframe stands out (via Reddit). Destiny can be recognized more in the design of the maps.

Overall, there is equal praise and criticism for The First Descendant. Some like the controls and the gunplay and enjoy the shooter despite the bugs (via Reddit).

According to Reddit, the missions are repetitive, but still entertaining. Overall, The First Descendant has potential, but is not a Destiny or Warframe killer.

MeinMMO author and Destiny expert Britta also took part in a beta for The First Descendant in October 2022 and summarized her impressions:
