Africa’s best soccer players were awarded in Marrakesh on Monday.
Nigeria Ademola Lookman and Zambia Barbra Banda has been named as the best African footballers of 2024.
Lookman’s selection was based on his excellent performances for both the Nigerian national team and Serie A side Atalanta.
The 27-year-old attacker collected 8+4 performances in the 13 matches he played in Seria A this season and 3+1 performances in the five Champions League games.
Lookman is a former Everton, Fulham and Leicester City player who was his continent’s only nominee in this year’s Ballon d’Or voting, finishing 14th.
Banda was rewarded thanks to his goalscoring efforts for both the Orlando Pride and the Zambian national team, where the top player serves as captain.
In the North American NWSL, the 170-centimeter, 24-year-old forward led Orlando to its first championship and was honored with the MVP title after finishing with 17 goals.
At the Paris Olympics, Banda scored four goals for his country.
