Minister of Foreign Affairs Tobias Billström (M) comments on the parliament’s decision in a written comment to TT:
“It is a welcome step that Turkey’s parliament today voted yes to Sweden’s NATO application. Now we look forward to President Erdoğan sign the ratification document. Sweden will be a reliable, solidary and committed NATO member,” writes Billström.
Also the Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg welcomes Turkey’s announcement.
“I also expect Hungary to complete its national ratification as soon as possible,” he writes in a written comment to TT.
The S leader Magdalena Andersson writes on X that the Turkish message is “gratifying”.
“Looking forward to both Turkey and Hungary quickly taking the final steps required for Sweden to become a member of NATO,” she writes.
The L conductor Johan Persson as Kristersson describes that Sweden is now one step closer to membership “in the world’s most important defense alliance”.
The C leader Muharrem Demirok now hoping for quick handling also in the Hungarian parliament.
“Everyone benefits from that. We build safety, security and stability together.”
