During the Independence Day celebrations in Highland Park, Illinois, USA, 22-year-old Robert E. Crimo opened fire on the crowd and killed 6 people and injured more than 20 people. In the latest statement, it was reported that the loss of life increased to 7. On the other hand, new details about the terrible attack in the USA began to emerge. Lake County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Christopher Covelli shared the latest developments regarding the attack with the public at a press conference. Here is the new information about the horrifying gun attack…
WEAR WOMEN’S CLOTHES TO BLEND WITH THE Crowd
Covelli stated that Crimo, who was caught hours later by the police, wore women’s clothes to blend into the crowd while fleeing after the attack, adding that Crimo’s clothing was focused on concealing his tattoos on his face and his identity. Stating that Crimo’s disguise helped him to adapt to other people fleeing the scene, Covelli said that after the attack, the attacker walked to his mother’s house living in the area and took his mother’s car.
LOSS OF LIVES INCREASED
Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering told the press that the death toll from the attack rose to seven. It was reported that a total of 39 people aged between 14 and 70 were injured in the attack, and it was stated that the condition of an 8-year-old boy was critical.
FIRED OVER 70 HANDS AT THE CROWD
Covelli stated that Crimo had fired more than 70 shots into the crowd from the roof, and stated that there was a second rifle in the vehicle, apart from the roof where the attack was made, when Crimo was taken into custody. Stating that the attacker is currently in custody, Covelli explained that all the clues show that Crimo acted alone.
HE PLANNED THE ATTACK WEEKS AHEAD
Noting that it was emphasized that the attack was planned, Covelli said, “At this point in the investigation and some of it is preliminary, it may change as we continue to move forward. However, we think that Crimo planned this attack a few weeks in advance.”
THE REASON OF THE ATTACK IS UNKNOWN YET
Stating that it is not yet known why Crimo carried out the attack, Covelli stated that the investigation continues and that the investigators continue to interrogate Crimo. Covelli stated that they currently have no information about whether the attack was “racial, religious or otherwise motivated” and that the attacker’s posts on the internet are also being examined. Covelli also added that they are working on charges against Crimo.
FLAGS HALLOWED IN THE USA
To honor the victims of the Highland Park attack, US President Joe Biden has ordered the flags to be lowered at half-mast in the White House and all public buildings. It was stated that the decision in question will be in effect until 9 July.
YOUTUBE AND SPOTIFY REMOVE ATTACKER CONTENT
After the attack, the posts of Crimo on social media platforms started to be removed. YouTube and Spotify announced that they have removed content linked to the attacker. Other social media platforms have not yet made a statement on the subject. (UAV)
