[Mis à jour le 19 janvier 2023 à 20h40] The film Midway, directed by Roland Emmerich, looks back on the famous battle of the same name which opposed the United States and Japan during the Second World War. This takes place particularly from June 4 to 7, 1942, a few months after the attack on Pearl Harbor which led to the victory of Japan. This naval battle takes place on the Midway Islands, located in the northwest of the Hawaiian archipelago in the Pacific, with the two powers each seeking to take control of this territory.
During this Battle of Midway, the Japanese army set about bombing three American aircraft carriers near the islands of the archipelago, resulting in a merciless battle between the two armies. Result: four Japanese aircraft carriers sink, against only one among the Americans. The rivalry between the two powerful however will continue to rage in this area of the globe during the conflict but will weaken the Japanese fleet. Subsequently, the United States will lead the Guadalcanal landings and the Solomon Islands campaign, which will ultimately allow the Allied forces to regain control during the Pacific War.
Synopsis – The disaster of the attack on Pearl Harbor was the result of a huge secret service error. Edwin Layton, intelligence officer, is convinced that the Japanese will not stop there and target Midway, a small isolated atoll in the North Pacific. Washington does not believe this theory. But as Layton had foreseen, the attack does take place. Admiral Nimitz, at the head of the American fleet, is determined to thwart the plans of the Japanese. For his part, Layton tries to break through the enemy code…
