This is by far the news of the day, that of Tuesday September 19, 2023 and which no one saw coming, to tell the truth. This morning, very early, in the greatest calm, Tom Warren, one of the figures of the newspaper The Verge revealed Microsoft’s entire roadmap for the next 7 years, until 2030. In reality, the leak does not come from the journalist, but from the FTC which published documents that could not be more confidential and which should not have been revealed. And among these secret elements, there are the two new consoles that Microsoft plans to market in 2024. Xbox code names “Brooklin” and “Ellewood” are therefore in preparation at Microsoft, with complete details on these machines including the goal is to replace the Xbox Series X and S over time. Please note, this is not a question of new consoles, more powerful, etc., but a redesign of those that already exist, in order to correspond to Microsoft’s expectations for the years to come, in particular the full demat that the American firm is trying to impose from the Xbox One. 10 years ago, the world was not yet ready, but in 2024, players have agreed to no longer buy their physical games and to give up second-hand games too.
But that’s not all, there is also a new controller, with the same functionalities of the DualSense, codenamed “Sebile”. But let’s start at the beginning and these 2 new machines. The Xbox codenamed Ellewood is the machine that will replace the Xbox Series bonus a USB-C port on the front, even if in the details of the documents, nothing is mentioned. On the other hand, it is specified that this Ellewood Xbox would be marketed at a price of 299 dollars and would be released at the end of August 2024, two months in advance of “Brooklin”, the new Xbox Series X model. Conversely, we know everything of the 2024 redesign of the Xbox Series X, starting with its cylindrical design, a bit like a connected speaker. It will be a 100% digital model, which means Microsoft wants to get rid of the Blu-ray player. The console will be the same in terms of performance, but will still have faster Wi-Fi, 2 TB storage space, USB-C on the front and will be more eco-responsible, with lower consumption than the Series
As for the new controller, codenamed “Sebile”, Microsoft plans to market it at the end of May 2024. Its design is slightly different and appears with a two-tone black and white dress. However, it should be noted that the buttons and analog sticks will be quieter, that it will have haptic feedback and an accelerometer. The Sebile controller will also have Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity with easier pairing with mobile devices for cloud gaming, while you will always have the choice between batteries or rechargeable battery. So much for these new machines and accessories which should undoubtedly have been announced in June 2024, a few months before their marketing, but unfortunately, the FTC and The Verge decided otherwise…
