Theodor Engström was convicted of murder and preparation for a terrorist crime by preparation for murder, the Gotland district court announced on Tuesday. The penalty was forensic psychiatric care with a special discharge examination.
It was during the Almedal Week on Gotland that Engström stabbed psychiatric coordinator Ing-Marie Wieselgren to death. Engström also had plans to kill Center leader Annie Lööf, who was nearby at the time of the murder.
After his Christmas speech, Lööf commented on the verdict against Theodor Engström:
– It has been very exhausting and incredibly tough, said the outgoing party leader to TV4 Nyheterna.
